PAZZI, pizza and Partech

Last week, Pazzi raised €10 million in Series A funding. Partech was joined by the Singapore-based investment fund Qualgro who made their first investment in Europe. The round also saw participation from existing investor daphni and newcomer Eutopia.

Pazzi was created by the French food tech startup EKIM in December 2013 by two young entrepreneurial engineers, Sébastien Roverso and Cyrill Hamon. They have built the first fooding solution with pizzaïolo robots cooking in total autonomy before the customer's eyes, creating unlimited pizzas with the finest ingredients from Italy and France.

Partech first invested in Pazzi in 2017, we loved the ambition and passion that the team brings to their unique and autonomous product. Their team has been working since 2017 with the 3-time world champion of pizza making, Thierry Graffagnino, to help the engineers teach their robots to replicate the perfect movements required from start to finish when making a pizza. They have made the robotic experience visible and unique and taken a huge step forward for the sustainable development of the restaurant sector and the consumer demand for speed, quality and food traceability.

We are delighted to have joined the funding of Pazzi again, who now look to accelerate the development of their technology. The funds will be used to strengthen their R&D teams and create more industrial partnerships for the manufacture of their next robots.

But what really excites us as well, is their plan to open their very own 100% autonomous pilot restaurant with the first pizzaïolo robots cooking unlimited recipes before the customer’s eyes. With the fundraising, they will open their first restaurant in Paris, at the Val d’Europe shopping centre, one of the leading shopping centres in France. This is just the start of their 2020 global deployment vision, where they will look to forge a number of partnerships with commercial property companies, food halls, airports, universities and ghost kitchens to name a few. 

At Partech, we love the innovation and drive behind Pazzi. They’re not just a pizza robot company, they are on a mission to create the most advanced technology in robotics and automation to tackle the main challenges facing the hospitality industry: sourcing good quality ingredients, recruiting staff, increasing food traceability and transparency while enhancing the fast food experience. The founders are set on using their tech for good, reimagining the notion of fast food and creating fresher, well-sourced, faster and more efficient options. 

Pazzi means ‘crazy’ in Italian and it certainly has been and will continue to be a crazy journey for them. We can’t wait to see how they get on!
