André-François Poncet is Partner at Partech, he joined the team in 2015. Get to know him with this Cake Break interview!
André, what did you do before joining Partech?
I worked as an investment banking analyst in London at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where I focused on large cap M&A.
I enjoyed working there in a high intensity environment together with my teammates – many of which I can today call friends – from all over the world. I focused most of my time modelling businesses across a wide range of industries. It was a great learning curve and ultimately helped me become efficient at making bottom-up diagnosis of companies with very different businesses.
During your 7 years, most of the investments you worked on were B2B companies. What trend have you seen in this sector?
In my eyes, the one trend that dominated them all over those years is the paradigm shift triggered by the adoption of cloud infrastructure. Not only did it change the way software is built, consumed, and sold but it had a transformational impact on how companies operate. It massively empowered SMBs and continues to do so. Today, one of the trends we look at is the proliferation of tools democratizing software development and empowering non-technical people, giving rise to ‘citizen users’.
You’ve recently been promoted to Partner. What advice would you give to someone looking to get to where you are today?
Be candid. Think like an owner.
What’s your favorite snack to grab from the Partech kitchen?
In the metaverse it’d be apples … in reality it is M&Ms (according to the data the most successful snack in the world!)
Thank you André!
